The Edo State Information and Communication Technology Agency (Edo ICTA) has urged residents to strengthen their digital security practices and remain vigilant against malware attacks as part of efforts to promote a safer digital environment across the state.

The awareness campaign aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda and underscores the state government’s commitment to promoting digital awareness, security, and responsible technology use.

The campaign, themed “Malware: Stop, Detect, Protect,” highlights the importance of safeguarding digital devices, protecting personal information, and adopting safe online practices in an increasingly connected world.

The Managing Director of Edo ICTA, Mr. Eghosa Urhoghide, emphasised the need for increased cybersecurity awareness, noting that protecting digital systems and sensitive information is essential to building public confidence in technology.

The Director of the Systems Engineering and Cybersecurity Department, Engr. Courage Adaghe, said it is important to continuously promote a safe culture in digital practices and encourage Edo residents to embrace safe digital practices.

As part of the campaign for the Cyber security month, Engr. Courage Adaghe advised Edo residents to regularly update their devices, install reliable antivirus software, download applications only from trusted sources, and avoid suspicious links that could expose their devices and personal information to malicious software.

The agency noted that malware poses a significant threat to individuals, businesses, and public institutions, stressing that preventive measures and continuous public education are vital to reducing cybersecurity risks.

It further emphasised that cybersecurity is a collective responsibility, urging residents to remain alert and take practical steps to protect their digital assets against potential threats.

Edo ICTA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a secure and resilient digital ecosystem in Edo State through sustained awareness campaigns and responsible technology use.

The agency urged Edo residents to embrace the message “Stop, Detect, Protect” as a practical guide to staying safe in the digital space.
