Ilorin – NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Johnson Olawumi has called on security agencies in Kwara to unveil the killers of a serving corps member, Miss Yetunde Idowu.
Olawumi made the call in Ilorin when a delegation of NYSC officials visited the Director of the State Security Service, Commissioner of Police and Emir of Ilorin on the death of the corps member.
Represented by the director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, NYSC Headquarters, Mr. Michael Ahile, the DG also appealed to security agents to fish out the killers and bring them to book.
“The DG has delegated us to come to Ilorin and discuss with security agencies and traditional institutions to unveil the circumstances surrounding the death of the corps members,” Ahile said.
Idowu, 27, who was until her death doing her primary assignment at Radio Kwara, Ilorin, was killed by unknown assailant on May 23.
An indigene of Ayetoro in Ogun, she graduated from Moshood Abiola Polytechnics with HND Management.
Mr. Ahile said NYSC management received the death of the corps member with heavy heart, particularly the circumstances surrounding her death.
He said NYSC placed great importance to the welfare and safety of corps members throughout the country.
“The NYSC will not tolerate the mindless and senseless killing of corps members on national assignment.
“We call on security agencies and traditional institutions in Kwara State to do everything within their power to find out who killed this corps member,” he added.
The Director said that security agencies and traditional rulers have specific roles to play in the security of corps members.
“That is why we have come to them to register our displeasure and request them to do everything possible to find out the circumstances surrounding the death and particularly bring the culprits to book,” Ahile said.
He said the Director of SSS has given an assurance that he would do everything professionally possible to fish out the killers and bring them to book.
At the Emir’s palace, Magaji Are of Ilorin, Alhaji Aremu Zubair, received the delegate on behalf of the Emir, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
He promised that the Emir would look into the request, adding that he may even take it to the Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
