BENIN CITY – The Edo State Judicial Service Commission has ordered all Judiciary workers to report for duty today (Wednesday) as any worker who fails to report for duty should consider himself/herself dismissed from service.
In a Special Government announcement yesterday signed by its Secretary, Mr. Isaac Sanu, the Judicial Service Commission said several appeals to the Edo State Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) to call off their six months old strike to pave way for the implementation of the financial autonomy being demanded by the workers were disregarded by   JUSUN Executive members.
The Commission guaranteed the safety and security of all Judiciary workers as they resume work today.
The announcement reads in part: “It is to be recalled also that the reason why they embarked on the industrial action, to wit, financial autonomy for the Judiciary was being resolved by the Judicial Service Commission in consultation with His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State.
“Appeals were made to JUSUN Executive members at the joint meetings held with the commission on the 11/3/2015 and 23/3/2015 to call off the strike so as to pave way for a conducive environment for the implementation of the financial autonomy since the provision of the constitution did not say that the money should be paid to JUSUN but the head of court concerned.  These appeals and many others were disregarded by JUSUN Executive members.
The Commission emphasized that the protracted strike action no longer makes any sense in the eyes of the general public because the purpose of a strike action is to create awareness and not to completely destabilize the system, hence Judiciary of Edo State, as an important arm of Government will no longer be allowed to be needlessly shut-down indefinitely.”
The Commission at its meeting held yesterday resolved that all judicial workers should report for duty today at 8.00 a.m. or face dismissal.
