ABUDU – Soldiers from the 4th Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army led seige on the entire Orogho Community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State. The soldiers who were sent to quell the protest and uprising in the community over the activities of the Oil companies,the Enogie and elders of the community.
It was reliably gathered that the youths of Orogho community had a running battle with the Enogie, elders of the community,the oil Companies and government.The marginalisation of the youths and other members of the community by government, oil companies, the elders and Enogie irks the youths who have warned them on several occasions to account for the proceeds accruing from the oil sales and royalty paid for the exploration.
It was further gathered that on August 15,2015, the youths took to the streets to vent their anger There was serious fighting as people loyal to the Enogie and those on the paid list of the oil companies engaged the angry youths in a free for all fight.
It was also gathered that some of the angry youths that were involved in the protest that later degenerated to serious fighting were Osayi John, Saturday Iyobo,Igiede Charles, Dennis Alfred and Ojo Osaro.
Osayi John and Dennis Alfred were killed in the fight while Igiede Charles, Saturday Iyobo and Ojo Osaro escaped.The father of Charles, Mr Igiede Peter was also killed. While properties worth millions of naira were destroyed. The Police station in the community and some government buildings were also burnt and destroyed
The soldiers who are in Orogho Community, according to sources are perpetrating evil acts in the community, all in the name of looking for some of the ring leaders of the protest like Igiede, Ojo Osaro, Saturday Iyobo and other youths who escaped for fear of being killed.
As at the time of writing this report the whereabout of Saturday Iyobo, Igiede Charles, Ojo Osaro and other youths is unknown as they have fled for fear of been killed.
