Abuja – The House of Representatives on Tuesday, urged the Federal Government to constitute a team to specifically search for the abducted Chibok girls.
The lawmakers said that the team which should operate from ‘’a control and situation centre’’ should consist of all the security agencies in the country.
The call was sequel to a motion by Rep. Asabe Bashir (Borno-APC) calling on the government to intensify efforts to rescue the Chibok girls, abducted on April 14, 2014, and other captives of the Boko Haram insurgents.
Bashir expressed worry that the families of the missing girls and Nigerians were yet informed of any rescue plan, and were therefore living in unimaginable agony.
“The families of the Chibok girls were not sure of any efforts being made to rescue the girls,” she said, adding that the girls deserved right to life, freedom and dignity protected by the Federal Government.
After a debate, the house unanimously adopted the motion and urged the Federal Government to publicise the latest information on search for the abducted girls.
It also proposed that there should be financial inducement for any information that would lead to the rescue of the girls and other missing people.
The house also urged the government to give financial assistance to the parents of the abducted girls to cushion the hardship and trauma the insurgents had brought upon them.
