BENIN CITY – Edo State House of Assembly has adopted a resolution approving the removal of Mr. Osaretin Edoma, a Director representing Orhionmwon Local Government Area in the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Commission (EDSOGPADEC).
The adoption of the resolution in Benin yesterday was sequel to the consideration of the request for the removal of the Director, Mr. Osaretin Edoma in EDSOGPADEC, by the Executive Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.
The Governor in a letter dated January 19, 2016 and read on the floor of Parliament during plenary session predicated the removal of the Director on incompetence and total lack of focus regarding the development of Orhionmwon local government area.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Foly Ogedengbe moving a motion on the request by the Governor said that the Law enabling the establishment of the Commission empowers the Executive Governor to appoint and remove any erring public office holder from office.
“The decision of the Governor in this regards is in accordance with this Law which is subject to the approval of the House of Assembly”, Hon. Foly Ogedengbe added.
The Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Sunday Aghedo in his contributions aligned his views with those of the Majority Leader in which he submitted that the power to hire and to fire lies fully on the Governor in accordance with the law establishing the commission.
Parliament in its submission unanimously adopted the resolution approving the removal of the Director from EDSOGPADEC while it directed that clean copies of the resolution be forwarded to the Governor for immediate action.
Meanwhile, a letter requesting the confirmation of the nomination of Mr. Sunday Iyamu as a Director representing Orhionmwon local government area was received and read on the floor of the House.
Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror however at plenary directed the nominee to forward copies of his Curriculum Vitae to the House Standing Committee on Rules, Business and Government House for screening ahead of the confirmation by parliament.
