BENIN CITY-The Police in Edo have warned against mismanagement of information capable of endangering peace and security in the state.

The police further advised members of the public to cultivate the practice of cross checking any information at their disposal before acting on it.

The Public Relations Officer for Edo Police Command DSP Osifo Abiodun stated these while commenting on what may have triggered the deadly shooting spree at Uromi town, the administrative headquarters of Esan North-East local government area of Edo State, recently.

“From what we are hearing, the man was told that he has some days to live.

“You see while we are saying that information must be well-managed otherwise it will lead to something else.

“Others are saying that the hospital management did not manage that information well about his condition of food poisoning. We are investigating”. DSP Osifo stated.

It will be recalled that a middle-aged man admitted in a hospital for suspected food poisoning reportedly escaped from his hospital bed, went to his house and picked up his gun, killing six persons alleged to have been responsible for his predicament.

The patient-turned gunman identified as Onana Osua moved from one residents of his victims to another as he allegedly shot on sighting them.

He was said to have killed the wife of one of his targets who he did not meet at home during the shooting escapade.

It was further alleged that he acted on the information that he had just five days to live due to the poisoning.

It was gathered after the killings the gunman fled to Ubiaja town in Esan South-west local government area where a team of policemen on patrol gunned him down and recovered his gun.
