Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has tasked residents of Oredo Local Government Area with mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the 2027 general elections as part of efforts to realise his administration’s target of 2.5 million votes for the President in Edo State.

The governor gave the charge at the Oredo APC campaign rally, where he expressed confidence that the people of Edo State were prepared to support Tinubu and other APC candidates at all levels in the forthcoming elections.

Okpebholo said his administration’s achievements in security, road infrastructure, urban renewal and other sectors would form a major part of the party’s campaign message, noting that the projects being executed across the state were visible evidence of the government’s commitment to development.

He said criticisms on social media should not be mistaken for the general disposition of the people, recounting how one of his administration’s fiercest critics recently acknowledged its achievements after visiting the state.

According to the governor, the individual told him that although he regularly criticised the administration online to attract followers, he had personally observed the developmental projects being executed in Edo.

Okpebholo said the experience reinforced his belief that the government’s performance and commitment to delivering public infrastructure were more important than social media criticisms.

He cited improvements in security, the Sapele Road corridor, road construction, flyovers, markets, schools and the development of the new Government Reserved Area (GRA) as some of the achievements of his administration.

The governor also questioned the intentions of politicians seeking public office, alleging that some were interested in using political power and the police to take over lands belonging to innocent residents.

Using a family analogy, he urged the people to sustain what he described as the progress being recorded in the state by supporting continuity at the federal level.

He consequently called on residents to mobilise their families, friends and associates to vote for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Okpebholo reiterated his target of 2.5 million votes for Tinubu from Edo, stressing that every vote would count under the principle of one man, one vote.

Earlier, Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, saying the quality of candidates presented by a political party was critical to its electoral success.

He assured the governor that Edo State would deliver the votes required for President Tinubu, while appreciating Okpebholo for providing infrastructure projects that the party could showcase during its campaign.

“Once you have good candidates for an election, the election is 100 per cent won. President Tinubu will get 100 per cent of what he needs from Edo State. Mr Governor, thank you for giving us projects to campaign with,” Idahosa said.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the Edo State Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, described Oredo as a strategic political constituency in Edo South Senatorial District.

He urged APC members and supporters in the local government to work towards securing more than 100,000 votes for the party, noting that such an outcome would contribute to the governor’s 2.5 million-vote target for President Tinubu.

The APC State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe; Ogbeide Ihama; Paddy Iyamu; and other party leaders also addressed the rally, calling for unity, mobilisation and sustained grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The rally brought together party leaders, elected officials, supporters and grassroots mobilisers in Oredo Local Government Area as the APC intensified its political mobilisation ahead of the next general elections.
