Port Harcourt – Rivers State remained calm after the Supreme Court upheld the election of Gov. Nyesom Wike on Wednesday.

Spokesman for the police in the state, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, told newsmen, in Port Harcourt that there was no report of negative incident after the judgment.

“ The Commissioner of Police ordered deployments to strategic areas in the state before the judgment.

“Police presence had been noticed in strategic areas and spots. We were prepared for any situation and we have not recorded any incident’’, he said.

Muhammad said the deployments would be sustained until such a time that the commissioner would give necessary directive.

He also said the command was prepared for re-run legislative elections in the state.

“We have held meeting with stakeholders on the need to maintain peace, though no date has been fixed for the elections.

“ The command is aware that there will be National and State Assembly elections in the state and we are prepared for it’’, he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Felix Obuah, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in Rivers, has dedicated Gov. Nyesom Wike’s victory at the Supreme Court to God.

Obuah made the statement on Wednesday in Port Harcourt while reacting to the Supreme Court judgment which upheld Wike’s election.

A statement issued by Mr Jerry Needam, Obuah`s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, urged Rivers people, irrespective of party affiliations to join hands with the governor to move the state forward.

It congratulated the people of the state for their prayers and commitment in the face of provocations.

The statement also quoted Obuah as commending ministers of God from all denominations across the country for their prayers and support for the governor.

It said that Wike’s administration was built on the foundation of God.

It said that hge PDP state chairman thanked the Supreme Court for protecting the mandate Rivers people freely gave Wike.
