BENIN CITY- Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Aihanuwa Eregie said the state government is very much committed to the procurement of quality, safe and affordable drugs and dressings for the state health institutions.
Dr. Eregie disclosed this in Benin City while presiding over the bid opening for the procurement of drugs and dressings for the state Government health institutions for the year 2016.
Dr. Eregie said that the essence of the exercise was to ensure that reputable Pharmaceutical companies are involved in the procurement of drugs for the benefit of the people of Edo State, giving the assurance that the process of selection would be very professional, open, transparent and fair.
Expressing the   Ministry’s commitment to due process, the commissioner said that the participating companies completed their document properly and duly registered with the State procurement Agency.
She pointed out that a technical committee would be constituted for the bids considerations, with a view to ensuring that the best and most qualified companies are considered for the supplies.
The Project Manager, Essential Drugs Programme (EDP, Dr. Solomon Ikpefan, represented by his assistant, Dr. OSARTIN ENADEGHE announced that 45 companies made the pre-qualification list for this year’s (2016) bidding which is an annually ritual.
Responding on behalf of the participating Companies, Mr. Ighile Emmanuel of Juhel commended the Commissioner and members of Edo State Essential Drugs Progranne Executive Committee (EDPEC) for the open and transparent manner in which the bids opening exercise was handled, saying, “We are all satisfied with the process so far”.
High point of the ceremony was the formal opening and signing of the bid documents by the Health Commissioner, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Peter Ugbodage and the representative of Edo State Procurement Agency, Mr. Anorhaoya Donatus, who commended the ministry for complying with Edo State procurement law
