BENIN CITY- The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been charged to always subject prospective motorists to proper testing before issuing drivers’ licences to them.

Edo State Deputy Governor Dr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu gave the charge on behalf of Governor Adams Oshiomhole when the Zonal Commanding Officer, RS 5 in charge of Edo, Delta and Anambra States, Mr. Shehu Zaki visited him in Government House, Benin City.

After being briefed on the purpose of the official visit, the deputy governor frowned at the issuance of drivers’ licences to partially-sighted persons and acquisition of licences by proxy which endangers the lives of other road users.

Dr. Pius Odubu commended the state sector command for what he called, a dutiful discharge of their duties based on the volume of traffic in the state, being the gateway to other parts of the country.

On the need for bus stops at strategic locations in the state, he told the zonal commanding officer that government would partners the FRSC with a view to addressing the situation.

Assistant Corps Marshal Shehu Zaki in his remarks said the FRSC has made some achievement in the reduction of road traffic crashes, going by the initial statistics of 25,381 cases in 1988 when the agency was established.

He appreciated the establishment of Edo State Traffic Management Agency by the state government, while calling for proper training of the traffic controllers in order to derive maximum benefits from the agency.
