BENIN CITY- Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has sworn-in his immediate past Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Prince Kassim Afegbua as the new Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Edo State.

He also swore-in Sunday Iyamu from Orhiomwon Local Government Area, as a member of Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC).

On the appointment of Prince Afegbua, Governor Oshiomhole said “Your appointment is not political patronage. Kassim and I have come a long way. I believe he has the gift of intellect”.

According to the Governor: “He is assuming office at a very critical time, a very difficult time in terms of economy when the price of crude oil has dropped from over 100 dollars to 28 dollars per barrel”.

He explained that two challenges comprising the poor economy on one hand as well as the intra-party and inter party politicking.

Governor Oshiomhole used the ceremony to dismiss the rumour that he owes a private airline with its airport in Cape Verde pointing out that he chose not to react to the unfounded information rather he would show to the people the infrastructure that he had built across the state for the development of the state which he urged the people to “eye mark” in order not be deceived by the opponents.

While congratulating Prince Afegbua and his wife on his appointment, he wished him God’s guidance.

On the appointment of Sunday Iyamu, as a member of Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission, Governor Oshiomhole described him as “a very hard-working member of our party “, and has experience and he is qualified.

The Governor also announced Hon. Yakubu Gowon as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative matters to serve as a liaison officer between the office of the Governor and the Edo State House of Assembly.

In their separate responses, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Kassim Afegbua thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve as Commissioner adding, “I will not disappoint the confidence reposed in me”.

According to the Commissioner, “The reason for accepting to serve with you is primarily because of your intellect and Oratory prowess. I believe I will learn something from you. I salute Governor’s courage to step on some people’s toes in order to render service to the people of Edo State. Mr. Governor is a miracle worker”.
He said “I am not money-driven. I am driven by character.”

Also, the new EDSOGPADEC member, beyond thanking the Governor for his appointment, said he was enthused to be part of his administration adding that the Governor and his administration have done so much for the state.
Both appointees had earlier sworn to the relevant oaths of office.
