BENIN CITY-The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Mr Chris Ezike has urged cultists in the state to renounce their memberships of cult gangs as the ongoing crackdown on cultism would not spare anyone involved in the act, henceforth.
Mr Ezike who disclosed that new cult groups have emerged in the society called on parents to stop indulging in self-denial whenever police investigation unmasked their children secret involvement in cultism.
He called on those involved in the act to approach the state police command headquarters in Benin City to renounce their memberships as the police are waiting to profile and counsel them, with the expectation that they will turn a new leaf, thereafter.
The COMPOL stated this while addressing journalists in his office in Benin City, recently.
“As a command we want to work strictly in line with the law, as a command we may not have all the powers, there may be some that are left in the hands of government.
“But we have shown enough goodwill, if you realize that people are renouncing, swearing to affidavit bringing it in and we are profiling and no harm is befallen them, you will realize that we have shown enough goodwill.
“That is why we are asking others to come out, come out and renounce, let’s turn a new leaf. Cultism is a gaze into emptiness, a gaze into the wilderness.
“There is nothing at the end of the tunnel, no light, no food. Instead, what you have is destruction at end of the tunnel”. Mr Ezike noted.
He challenged traditional and religious leaders as well as institutions of higher learning to carry out researches on what drives cultism maintaining that their findings would further boost law enforcement.
“If we do not stem the tide of cultism, kidnapping, robbery, gangsterrism will be on upward movement.
“I want to ask parents to stop indulging in self-denial, it will not solve the problem.
“Every parent will tell you his son is not a cultist including the ones their children are Capones.
“If you watch the segregation of the cultism body you will discover that new cult groups have entered the system, the secondary schools are not spared”. He stated.
Commissioner Ezike however revealed that the state police command has arrested beyond the ordinary cultists as some have already be charged to court in its anti-cultism campaign.
He thanked those partnering with the police command assuring that the carrot and stick measure so far adopted would further deepen the war against cultism and its attendant crimes in Edo State.
