BENIN CITY – Residents of 6B, Iluobe street, off Ben-Oni road G.R.A. Benin City, the private residence of Hon. Patrick Iluobe, the Minority Leader Edo State House of Assembly, have joined others to lend their voices to the call on the Edo State Police Command to hunt out and arrest all members of a dangerously armed bandits that have been threatening the Lawmaker and his family.
It would be recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Lawmaker representing Esan North-East I constituency at the Edo State Assembly narrowly escaped death in two separate attacks when his convoy enroute from Benin City was ambushed by some unidentified gunmen on June 21, 2014 and January 1, 2015 respectively along the Benin – Agbor road and Ubiaja – Emu road.
Hon. Iluobe in an interview with The NIGERIAN OBSERVER gave a blow-by-blow account in the harrowing experience his family suffered in the recent attack at his private residence by 2 armed men carting away valuables worth over a million naira and his licensed double-barrel firearm in the process.
Narrating the ordeal members of his immediate family had been subjected to while he was away on an official engagement in the recent attack, the Lawmaker said the armed men gained access into his premises by scaling a portion of the barbed wire fence they destroyed using electrically operated equipment which enabled easy entry into his main apartment through the window of a toilet in the visitor’s room.
“At about 2 a.m. on June 8, 2016, I got a call from my neighbour who informed me that armed bandits had attacked my wife and children including other occupants of my home barely 48 hours from the day that I embarked on an official engagement outside the state.
“I had to call off the official engagement to return home to my family at the break of dawn to discover that though unhurt, my wife, Mrs. Queen Iluobe and my first son, Joshua, who were violently beaten up, were still in trauma at the sight of the armed men that told them that they were on order to get me alive.” Hon. Iluobe added.
The Minority Leader further said that his wife while narrating her ordeal in tears said that the two armed men, woke her up and children then ordered them to the bedroom of the Lawmaker where they asked about his whereabout while the wife told them, he was not in town.
“My wife weeping uncontrollably said that the armed men started to beat her and her son up for not telling them the truth about his whereabouts.  They demanded for his gun which she was unable to provide, prompting them to ransack every wardrobe in the house for valuables to steal.
“They found the gun with License No. LI No. 009127 in my wardrobe and angrily they used the gun to smash her leg while they packed other valuables including HP Laptop valued at N105,000.00; jewelry  box containing jewelries worth N450,000.00, Handset and tablet phones valued at N400,000.00  including a Zenith Bank ATM card belonging to my wife” Hon. Iluobe explained.
The Lawmaker and other relatives however appealed to the State Police Command to quickly nip in the bud the planned visit of the armed men to return to his house to eliminate members of his household as the family now lives in complete fear.
