Ekpoma – The Edo State Government had increased its monthly subvention to the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, from N100 million to N254 million.
Gov. Adams Oshiomhole disclosed this on Thursday in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, at the inauguration of the seven kilometre Ujemen- Uhumudumu Royal Market Road.
Oshiomhole said this increment would assist the state-owned university to fix some of its infrastructure and attend to some other needs within the university community.
He directed that the road whose construction he inaugurated should be converted to a dual-carriage one from the initial nine metres earlier approved for the contractors while promising to complete the project.
Oshiomhole also said that in the next one week, the contract for the construction of 200 public schools would be awarded.
The governor said that within the last seven-and-half years, the state government had spent enormous resources on infrastructure development in the state.
He said that his government would continue to provide more infrastructure as it was committed to uplifting the lives of the Edo people.
He said that his administration was also committed to finishing well and strong, hence the mobilisation of the contractors with N300 million to move to sites.
Oshiomhole also said that his administration was committed to mitigating the pains and sufferings of the people of the state by embarking on people-oriented- developmental projects.
He explained that his administration did not embark on projects to garner votes during elections but out of conviction of what would be beneficial to the citizens.
He noted that the state would source funds to complete its ongoing projects despite the present economy situation affecting the country which he said had reduced the Federal Government’s monthly allocation to the state.
He explained that his administration was committed to evenly develop the state, adding that the reward for hard work was more work.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Mr Osarodion Ogie, the State Commissioner for Works, said that the new road would link Ekpoma with its adjoining communities.
This would touch the social and economic lives of the residents, he said.
Also, the Onogie of Ekpoma, Anthony Abumere 11, assuired the state government that benefitting communities would protect the project.
He described Ekpoma as the business centre of Esan land.
The governor also inspected the already completed 16.5 kilometre-long Ebudin-Ujogba Road in Igueben Local Government Area.
