BENIN CITY-Police in Benin have apprehended a five-man gang of armed robbers terrorising residents of Evbuomore Community, recovering their loots and arms in Benin City.

The gang including a native doctor alleged to be their armourer, were separately picked from their rooms few hours after robbing a nursing mother in her residence at Uhunwu Street, Evbuomore Community, about 3:20am, last Friday.

It was gathered that the hoodlums broke into their victim’s bedroom, carted away three laptops, palmtop, wallet and laptop bag containing her documents as she momentarily took her two babies and maid to a corner in the house.

Other occupants of the 12-flat compound who were awakened by the bang started making distress call to themselves and the police while the siege lasted.

It was further gathered that no sooner had the hoodlums fled the compound than men of Ugbowo Estate Police Station stormed the compound.

The rampaging bandits were said to have stormed another private residence and a bakery where they unleashed terror on the residents.

A stop-and-search of vehicles embarked upon by the police team in the area led to the arrest of one of the suspects who could not prove ownership of the laptop found with him.

Further interrogation however revealed that the laptop was one of the three laptops earlier carted away from the nursing mother’s apartment.

The suspect was said to have led policemen to the residence of their kingpin who was caught unwinding with two women.

Residence of Evbuomore Community thanked the police for their prompt response and arrest as they now feel safe with the robbers in police custody.

They however appealed to the Commissioner of Police in Edo State Mr Chris Ezike to ensure that the case is not handled with kid gloves.

Confirming the arrest, CP Ezike assured that thorough investigation would be carried out.

He said two suspects were apprehended by the police.

“Yes! I can confirm that to you, investigation is ongoing”. CP Ezike stated.
