BENIN CITY-The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone ‘5’ AIG Kolawole Shodipo has enjoined operatives of Edo State Police Command to be professional in discharge of their duties before, during and after the September 10 gubernatorial election in the state.

AIG Kolawole also called on members of the traditional institutions, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), vigilante groups, transport unions, hunters and other security stakeholders to step up their partnerships with the police for efficient policing.

He stated this while addressing men and officers of Edo Police Command at the Command headquarters, and during interaction with security stakeholders at the Police Officers Mess, GRA, Benin City, yesterday.

“It is very, very important for you to assist us, give us useful information”. AIG Kolawole stressed.

The AIG charged officers of the police command to be civil with members of the public just as he warned them against extortion.

He however expressed satisfaction with the security successes so far achieved in the state.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the state Mr Chris Ezike told the AIG that since his assumption of duty about 11 months ago, the performance and commitment to duty of the 7,845 personnel in the command had improved significantly.

CP Ezike disclosed that no fewer than 1,134 suspects of various criminal offences were arrested whilst 856 arms and ammunition of different calibre were recovered within the period under review.

He however expressed the command readiness to provide adequate security before, during and after the coronation of the Oba of Benin and conduct of free, fair and credible governorship election in the state.
