BENIN CITY-A child who was sexually abused and admitted in Central hospital in Benin City, has been reported missing.

She was rescued and taken to the hospital by a vigilant police woman sergeant (name withheld), on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.

Investigation revealed that the child, about eight years old, with deficient health status, may have been abandoned by her parents.

She was said to be wandering around Ring Road area of the City when some randy miscreants took advantage of her condition.

Our reporter investigation at the State-owned medical facility revealed that the missing patient was initially admitted at the gynaecology ward of the hospital.

Few days after, she was transferred to the Children’s ward, until Friday, August 19, 2016 when the matron on duty (name withheld), declared her missing to the hospital management.

It was further scooped that, thereafter, the hospital management alerted the police.

It was also alleged that the child suffered clinical negligence in the hands of the nurses who perceived her condition, irritating.

Sources hinted that the daily care of the child while in the ward was left to an unknown woman who accompanied her to the hospital under the guise of a sympathizing caregiver.

Some senior management staff of the hospital who pleaded anonymity confirmed our reporter’s findings, but were swift to deny allegation of clinical negligence.

“The police that brought the child told us the history of rape, our own is to treat, we are not investigating officers.

“We have commenced a search for the child, the main thing now is that the child does not communicate, we don’t have a name for the child.

“We are hoping that the woman who has acted as a mother to the child throughout the admission will surface with the child because on some occasions she took the child out and brought her back. One the sources said.

Further investigation revealed that two persons including a nurse in the ward have been arrested by the police.

Contacted, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State Mr Chris Ezike confirmed the incident.
“We are investigating, I interfaced with the hospital management yesterday (last Friday), they are cooperating”. CP Ezike stated.
