Abuja – Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said on Tuesday in Abuja that the Federal Government is committed to bringing desirable change in the country.
Osinbajo spoke at a town hall meeting and policy dialogue for good governance organised by the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) and Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.
The event has the theme: “Towards Effective Implementation of the 2016 Budget.’’
The vice president who was represented by Dr Adeyemi Sipeolu, Special Adviser on Economic Matters, said the priority of government are “security, tackling corruption, improved economy and well being of the citizens.’’
He said the government has adopted strategic implementation plan for the 2016 budget with 34 priority actions across six intervention areas.
According to him, the intervention areas included diversification of the economy, power, rail and roads, oil and gas, ease of doing business for investors and security.
The vice president commended AANI for organising the forum and urged the body to continue to support government’s efforts.
He assured that suggestions from the town hall meeting will be considered for implementation.
Speaking in the same vein, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, commended AANI for their patriotism.
He said the initiative of the town hall meeting was to complement the efforts of government.
“This is very commendable, coming at a time that some individuals and groups have made it their past times to continually castigate government.
“These groups are castigating government over the economic situation which is not its own making, but has been working hard to mitigate.
“ This association has chosen instead to engage the government and make suggestions to solve the nation’s challenges,’’ he said.
The minister appealed to other associations to emulate AANI in joining hands with the government to move the country forward.
He noted that the task of nation-building is for all Nigerians and government cannot do it alone.
