BENIN CITY-The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, has appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders and parents in the state to advise their youths against electoral violence, as election is not a do or die affairs.

CP Adeoye also solicited the support of traditional rulers, vigilante groups and other security stakeholders in Edo in crime busting, prevention and control in the state.

He made the appeal while addressing security stakeholders, which comprised members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), vigilante groups, Hunters Union, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Hausa, Yoruba, Fulani Communities among others, during his familiarization visit to Auchi and Irrua Areas Command, in Edo North and Central Senatorial District, respectively, last Friday.

He called for information that would assist the police provide the desired security, as such a tip off would be handled with utmost confidentiality.

“Do not hesitate to share any information you have with the Area Commander, DPOs…..I assure you that such information will be treated with confidentiality”. CP Adeoye stated.

CP Adeoye who assured them of adequate security during the after the Sept 28 gubernatorial polls, however charged the youths to always comport themselves peacefully.

The Commissioner also used the visit to address men and officers of the two Areas Command where the Auchi and Irrua Areas Commander, ACP Adam Isa Ngojin, and ACP. Kunle Olusokan, respectively, stated that crime rate in their domain is “relatively low due to the quality of leadership provided by DPOs in the various Divisions that make up the Areas Command…”.

They however intimated the commissioner of their constraints which included shortage of patrol vehicles, communication gadgets, manpower and equipment.

CP Adeoye and his entourage comprising the Deputy Commissioner, in charge of operations, Mr Olatunji Ayodele, also visited the palaces of the Otaru of Auchi, HRH. Alhaji Aliru Momoh (Ikelebe III), and the Enojie of Irrua, HRH. Alhaji Williams Momodu II, and the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, where he solicited for royal and academic support to control and combat crime in Edo State.
