BENIN CITY – Citizen Solomon Oboh, Chairman CSDP Project Committee of Iguosa Housing Estate, Benin City has sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to save him and other members of the Project Committee of Iguosa Housing Estate by some person who have chosen to use the police to intimidate them.
Mr. Oboh alleged that Messrs Jacob Egharevba, Jonathan Onweibor, Flora Oyakhilome and Goodluck Uwaifo had severally written petitions against them to the different levels of the police alleging that the Project committee had diverted the sum N1million belonging to the Iguosa Housing Estate a claim that had be found to be false after thorough investigation by the police.

Addressing newsmen in Benin on Tuesday Mr. Oboh speaking on behalf of Chief Awodu Charles, Mr. John Ehigie Jacob, Ellis Ighodaro and Mrs. J.N Okeke all against whom the petition was written, Mr. Oboh expressed worry that dispite the evidence before the police that these men had given them false information, the officers concerned had refused to prosecute them.

The petitioners Messrs Jacob Egharevba, Jonathan Onweibor, Flora Oyakhilome and Goodluck Uwaifo had written the petition to the Office of the Assistance Inspector-General of Police Zone 5 alleging that Solomon Oboh and other members of the project committee had diverted the sum of N1m meant for the development of Iguosa Community leading to their arrest and detention.

The Police in Zone 5 he said discovered upon investigation that Jacob Egharevba and his co petitioners had given the Police misleading information and subsequently drafted criminal charges against them as they were to be charged to court.

According to Mr. Oboh, before this could happen, and in the petitioners bid to avoid prosecution and taking full advantage of the delay by the IPO in charge of the matter to court, reported the same matter to the D’ Department, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Police Headquarters, Abuja, prompting their invitation to Abuja over the same matter.

Mr. Oboh said, he and his co-accused became worried when the two officers who investigated the matter in Abuja even after they had established that Mr. Jacob Egharevba and his co-petitioners gave false information to the Police and deliberately maligned them, the Officers still chose to advise the parties to go home and mend fences.

Oboh said in as much as he and his co-accused were not averse to the alternative dispute resolution option, they would want the petitioners to be charged to court immediately due to the fact that the peace effort had broken down irretrievably.

He therefore appealed to the IGP and the AIG Zone 5 to quickly order that the case be charged to court so that justice would be seen to have been served in the case.
