BENIN CITY-Large turn-out, orderliness and tight security characterized the rescheduled Edo governorship election which held yesterday, Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016.

In most voting centres visited, enthusiastic voters queued up in orderly manner exercising their franchise amid tight security.

About 6:45am, some voters had already converged at their polling units in expectation of accreditation and voting which simultaneously commenced about 8am in most centres visited in Benin City.

Armed policemen and soldiers barricaded major roads in Benin City to ensure compliance with the restriction on vehicular movement, by the state government.

Unarmed policemen also provided security at every voting centre monitored.

The voters commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for living up to expectations.

They however applauded the security agencies for keeping merchants of electoral violence out of business.

An 81-year-old Umukoro Portugal, Hon. Justice Aliu, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and some other voters who exercised their franchise at the Civil Service Staff Training School, Okada Avenue, Benin City unanimously described the election as impressive.

They noted that the introduction of accreditation followed by voting had reduced the stress hitherto faced by voters, hence, it should be encouraged in subsequent elections.
