Abuja – The Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Prof. Kyari Mohammed, says the Boko Haram insurgency has caused food insecurity to some 4.4 million people.

Mohammed also disclosed that the attacks had caused malnultrition to 224, 000 children in the North East region.

He gave the figures on Monday in Abuja in a presentation at a seminar on “Assessing the Threats of Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria’’.

He said the insurgency had so far affected 14.8 million people, damaged infrastructures worth 9 billion dollars in the region.

According to him, the terrorists have killed 600 teachers and destroyed 1,200 schools in the area.

Also speaking, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, said that the army respects human rights in the ongoing war against the terrorists and promised not to violate rights.
