BENIN CITY – Edo state government has resolved to carryout an indefinite snap check on primary and secondary schools teachers in public service across the state.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. John Mayaki said the decision was the outcome of the Joint Allocation Committee (JAC) meeting held last Weekend in Benin.
The statement added that the Head of Service, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Tom Ebhotemen briefed the Media on behalf of the state government.
He said the move will discourage indolence, fraud and fast track the monitoring and evaluation of staff performance at their primary place of assignments.
“We have also at this meeting resolved that because of the very large chunk of money that goes for teachers salaries to carryout a snap check on schools to ensure that teachers that are paid salaries are really on ground”, he said.
Ebhotemen, said the sum of N1.275, 66,917 has been devoted for the payment of November 2016 salaries of public schools teachers in the state. The money was deducted from the mandatory N1.884, 369.
He maintained that 5 percent of the total fund approved by JAC for the Local Government Areas would also be paid to traditional rulers in the state as established by law.
He stated further that the state government has concluded plans to strengthen the various marriage Registries.
