Kano – The Federal Government would ensure effective implementation of its various empowerment programmes for vulnerable and poor Nigerians, an official said.
Hajiya Maryam Uwais, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Social Investment Intervention Programme, said this at the Grassroots Town Hall Meeting held in Kano on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was convened by the Federal Government to enlighten people on the harsh economic realities facing the country and steps taken so far to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
She said the Federal Government would ensure that the programmes were fully implemented through effective monitoring and supervision.
Already, she said, government had set up mechanism to engage National Orientation Agency (NOA) and NYSC to ensure effective monitoring of some of the programmes with a view to achieving the desired objectives.
“The Federal Government will ensure effective monitoring of the programmes as it has set up mechanism to engage NOA and NYSC to do that,” she added.
Uwais then urged governors to mobilise people in their respective states to enable the poor and vulnerable who were the target of the programmes to fully participate.
Earlier, the wife of the Kano State Governor, Hajiya Hafsat Ganduje, had told the presidential aide that the state government planned to empower 10,000 women with soft loans in 2017.
She said that the government, in addition, had concluded arrangements to rehabilitate and equip women development centres across the 44 local government areas of the state.
She commended the Federal Government for initiating the meeting which she said would go a long way in sensitising the people on its activities.
The meeting was attended by various groups from the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
