Lagos – Lagos Legislators have commended the cancellation of the monthly environmental sanitation by the appeal court sitting in Lagos.

A court of appeal in Lagos recently declared that monthly environmental sanitation in Lagos as unconstitutional. This court order however consequently forced the Lagos state government to abolish the monthly sanitation exercise which used to be held from 7 am to 10 am on last Saturdays of every month.
Speaking with The Nigerian Observer on the issue, Hon. Abiodun Tobun, who is the Chairman House Committee on works and representing the Epe constituency 1, said. “Nothing is bad on the cancellation of the environmental sanitation.

Lagos is a Mega state. Tobun added that he believed that the three hours for business earmarked for sanitation should not be disturbed. He however appealed to people to pay their taxes, so that Government will provide them with necessary amenities, saying that residence will get value for their money, assuring residents that they will get value for their money.

Tobun reiterated that Lagos lawmakers will perform their oversight functions accordingly. In the same vein, a lawmaker in the assembly who preferred anonymity said, “There is no law that prevents people from free movement, court admitted that there is no law prohibiting lawful movement of people” He advised that government should bring issues to the state assembly for proper legislation.
