The Baggies boss believes the Gunners boast greater depth to their ranks than the table-topping Blues and has backed them to maintain their Premier League title challenge

West Brom manager Tony Pulis has backed Arsenal to maintain a Premier League title challenge and insists the Gunners have a stronger squad than league leaders Chelsea.

The Baggies boss was speaking after his side conceded a cruel late header from Olivier Giroud in the Boxing Day clash at Emirates Stadium.

Giroud’s 87th minute header gave Arsenal all three points in an edgy encounter in north London, just a week after two consecutive league defeats against Everton and Manchester City – but Pulis insists that the Gunners have greater strength in depth than their London rivals.

“He [Giroud] is untypical of what Arsene believes in in many respects but he’s done well today”, said Pulis.

“The top teams win so many games in the last 10 minutes. They are relentless in the way they play. We’re disappointed but we’ll move on.

“I think Arsenal have a stronger squad [than Chelsea]. If you look at the players missing today. It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea spend in January or not – I think they will.”
