Abuja – The House of Representatives Committee on Anti-corruption, in collaboration with the African Development Studies Centre (ADSC) is set to host a national anti-corruption conference targeting the public sector.

Mr Victor Walsh, a consultant to the committee, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

He said the conference with the theme; “Together against Corruption; A Search of Viable Solutions’’, would hold in Abuja between Dec. 6 and 8.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference was coming barely two months after the National Assembly organised a similar forum in collaboration with the Presidency between Oct. 18 and 19.

Walsh said the forthcoming conference was inspired by the “huge success’’ of the first one, “which brought the National Assembly and Presidency together for the first time’’ on the anti-corruption war.

“The House Committee on Anti-corruption has found it necessary to consolidate on this by reaching out to the rest members of the society in the fight against corruption.

“The public sector, comprising the Armed Forces and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government are being targeted with this conference.

“It is imperative for members of the sector to be sensitised on ways of curbing corruption in Nigeria,’’ he said.

According to him, the House of Representatives strongly believes that the time has come for concerted efforts by all Nigerians and institutions to tame corruption menace.

The conference, he added would be a viable forum for participants to engage in serious soul searching as well as to review, rethink and re-strategise on the way forward.

“The outcome of this conference is expected to impact on various arms of government; it will deliver a tripartite benefit to the executive, judiciary and legislature.

“The expected benefits are in the areas of budget and budgeting, financial engineering, prudence, transparency and agenda setting against all forms of corruption in government and the polity.’’

The conference would attract notable personalities from across the country, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the Special Guest of Honour.

Others are the Speaker, House of Reps, Mr Yakubu Dogara; Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun; Accountant-General and Auditor-General of the Federation, and heads of anti-graft agencies, among others.
