BENIN CITY – Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of Training and Development at the Edo State Police Command has allegedly committed suicide in Benin City.
It was scooped that ACP Christopher Nosakhare Osakue shot himself in the head with his service Pistol inside his private residence in Upper Sokponba area of Benin City, last Wednesday.
He allegedly sent a lady and a little boy living with him on an errand and committed the abominable and criminal act before they returned.
He is said to hail from Orhionmwon local government area of Edo State
Insider source hinted that ACP Christopher suffered a partial stroke few years ago and was gradually recovering from it when the unthinkable happened.
The paralysis, it was further gathered affected his social and emotional being as he may have taken his life out of depression.
He was said to have left no suicide-note for his family members.
The deceased residence was deserted when our reporter visited it in a yet-to-be named street, Off Avan Street, Off Ekhator Street, Upper Sokponba Road, Benin City, last Friday.
A metallic ash Lexus jeep with registration number ONDO, NND-131HV was well parked in front of the new bungalow.
A neighbour said she heard a gunshot inside the ACP residence about 5pm that fateful Wednesday.
She added that after the sound of the gun a frightening and curious silence engulfed the entire building until his wife later broke the silence with a sorrowful scream.
The neighbour however disclosed that operatives of Ugbekun police division later stormed the residence shortly after.
It was further learnt that the late senior police officer hosted some youths in his area who visited him last Christmas as he also gave them some money to celebrate the yuletide with their families.
The ACP family members could not be reached for comment.
Sources disclosed that the deceased biological children live with their mother outside Edo State.
Meanwhile, investigation at the Edo State Police Command headquarters in Benin City revealed that ACP Christopher Nosakhare was posted from Ondo State police command recently.
Some officers at the state police command headquarters were yet to familiarize him before the sad incident.
He was alleged to have sat down on a chair pulled a drawer, picked his service Pistol which he removed from its leather casing and shot himself in the head point blank.
“We have recovered the Pistol and deposited his corpse in a mortuary. From what we observed at the scene, nobody killed him, he shot himself.
“We have begun investigation anyway”. A senior police officer stated.
Confirming the ugly incident the Commissioner of Police in Edo State Mr Haliru Gwandu stated that the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Training and Development in his command killed himself with a pistol he signed for in Ondo State police command where he was posted to Edo State, recently.
“It is a case of suicide. At the time he killed himself nobody was in the house.
“The police was the first to arrive the scene after he shot himself.
“Why he killed himself I do not know because he did not leave a note. He is supposed to retire early next year”. CP Gwandu stated.
