BENIN CITY: Edo State Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said he was the unlikely governorship candidate in the September 28th 2016 Governorship election in Edo State but was favoured by God to win the election.

He said this at the thanksgiving service at New Covenant Gospel Church in Benin City the Edo State Capital to appreciate God for his victory at the Supreme Court bringing to an end the governorship tussle.

Obaseki said now that God has given him victory his administration is ready to work for the Edo people and the development of Edo State making it the economic hub of the nation.

He said politics is now over for the next three years in the state and it is time to work for the people of the state and to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people of the state. “Politics is over at least in the next three years, I am dedicating myself to work for everyone and Edo state. I call on you to pray to God that what my administration has achieved in the last eight months will be a tip of the ice-berg compare to what God will use us and help us to achieve.

The governor call on the Edo people to continue to pray for the state and his administration as God has mandated the state and the people to show the nation the way. “We are special people created by God as the Benin Empire was never in existence by mistake.

He said in time past the country was not like this neither was Edo State like this. He added that things worked in the state, as there was electricity, good water, road and the basic needs to make life beautiful saying that God helping his administration Edo people will smile again and will not regret for given him the mandate to govern the state for the next four years.”Our people have not forgotten where they come from, that is why I believe that our people will support our government to deliver on our electioneering promises to make the state great.

Obaseki said seeking the governorship seat in the state was never his idea as he just came to serve and support Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to help develop the state but people received the vision and calling for me to serve the people of the state. “Seeking the governorship office was not my idea as people received the vision for me including my wife. I got confirmation from people. I thank them all and especially God for the support and the victory all the way.

“The campaign was tough, the primary was difficult, the economy was bad, we were in recession but God still help us win the election” he concluded.

In his address the president of the National Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude congratulated the governor for his victory assuring him that the victory has shown that God is with him and the Church will support him all the way to make Edo State great.

Omobude represented by Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Edo State Chapter Bishop Dr. Oriname Oyonnude Kure said the Church which is the body of Christ is behind him and will rally round him to succeed as God has given him the mandate to govern the state.

“God is with you on this journey; you will not fail, faint or fall in discharging your responsibility as governor of the state. God has given you victory all round and you must rule the people with the fear of God.

The high point of the thanksgiving service was a prayer for the governor and his administration to succeed in the great task of ruling the state and taken it to an enviable height.
