BENIN CITY- Police in zone 5 have begun investigation into the recent killing of a 57-year-old man at Evbonwe village in Oredo local government area of Edo State.

The investigation had led to the arrest of some youths and a well coordinated search on the private residences of the village head (Odionwere) Pa Solomon Ugiagbe, his second and third in command Pa Samson Osemwengie and Pa Festus Omorodion, respectively, by operatives of X-squad, at the zonal headquarters in Benin City.

Our reporter witnessed the search when it was conducted on the elders homes at Evbonwe village and in Benin City on Friday, November 10, 2017.

The leader of the investigation team a Superintendent of Police Officer told our reporter that the arrests and search followed a petition written to the AIG by one Kingsley Igbinigie, a relative of the deceased.

A barrel said to have been licensed was recovered during the search.

The deceased identified as Osaheni Kolo, father of a baby boy was hacked to death in Evbonwe village by unknown person(s) on Monday, September 4, 2017.

His corpse was found at a spot along Uholor road in the community as residents said the incident happened at night.

The village head (Odionwere) Pa Solomon Ugiagbe who described the deceased as obedient appealed to the police to unmask those behind the killing.

“We beg the police authorities to find whoever is behind the killing”. He stated.

He expressed disappointment at the conduct of Kingsley Igbinigie for allegedly invading the community with thugs under the guise of looking for the killers of his brother.

The Odionwere maintained that the said Kingsley Igbinigie who lives few meters away from where his brother was murdered went to police alleging that the Odionwere, his deputy and some who live in Benin and some youths of the village killed his brother.

He explained that the deceased who played an unforgettable role in the community was honored with a parcel of land in Evbonwe where he was buried as the village footed all the bills that accumulated before the police gave permission for his burial.

Pa Ugiagbe however advised Kingsley Igbinigie and his supporters to work with the elders of Evbonwe and the police to ensure that the killers of his brother are arrested and prosecuted.

The said Kingsley Igbinigie could not be reached for his side of the story.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Zone 5 Public Relations Officer DSP Emeka Iheanacho proved abortive.
