Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO), an umbrella body of civil society groups in Edo state, is set to partner Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), for free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.

The Coordinator General, EDOCSO, Comrade Omobude, made this known recently in Benin city, during a courtesy call on the office of Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr. Obo Effanga of INEC.

Comr Agho who led other members of the executive council to the office of Edo REC, emphasized the roles expected of civil society in ensuring that things are put in right perspectives in the society.

The EDOCSO Coordinator General took the Edo REC through the historical background of the body and was informed that the organization is a leftists movement that does not depend on donors to carryout it responsibility.

Comr Agho, while doing a retrospect of EDOSCO’s relationship with a former Edo REC, Mike Igini, expressed gratitude that Mr. Effanga is from the civil society like Igini, which he noted will make things easier.

Some achievement by members of the organization across the country was however reeled out by the EDOCSO head, who assured the REC and his management team of the body’s unwavering support to INEC.

On his part, Barr. Effanga expressed appreciation to EDOCSO executives for identifying with the commission and commended them for their educative as well as enlightenment engagements with members of the public, especially via social media.

The Edo REC took the group’s executives through the Action Plan of the commission in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) and other activities geared towards the success of the forthcoming elections in the country.

He enjoined civil societies to join in the mobilization of citizens for the ongoing CVR exercise, and applauded EDOCSO for it statewide coverage, which according to him will enable the commission get feedback from the various registration centers.
