Benin city – The EDO State SEEFOR has called on Civil Societies and other organizations in the state to always engage it before embarking on the inspection of any of its project for proper guidance on job specifications and design.
The Edo SEEFOR Project Coordinator, Toju Onaiwu who spoke with Our Correspondent yesterday in Benin city, said the call was necessitated following ongoing inspection of projects across the state by members of Edo Civil society organization and COREN/ERM.
The Edo Project Coordinator of SEEFOR said, “people ought to know the SEEFOR Model of intervention, we are not doing major roads, we are doing access roads, roads we know the traffic will not be so much but at least provide opportunities for people in that area to be able to move around goods and services”.
Onaiwu, while condemning the situation whereby contractors handling SEEFOR projects are stop from carrying out their duties by the inspection team, queried, “do they have the specification of the roads?, do they have what was designed?”.
Onaiwu explained that, SEEFOR has mechanism for monitoring every stages of it projects before proceeding to another stage unless it is ad hoc or impromptu monitoring, adding, there is no stage of a project that can not be corrected.
He noted that, there is need for any group or organization to draw its attention to any shoddy SEEFOR project, which according to him can only be possible when such body have the contract design and specifications of the job.
“Beyond Benin city, there are other towns, villages where SEEFOR is intervening, we would appreciate them to also go there. We appreciate their (EDOCSO) work, I am not holding brief for any contractor but i believe where a contractor is failing should be brought to correction”, Onaiwu added
Recall that, the umbrella body of civil society groups in Edo state (EDOCSO) and representatives of regulatory bodies of engineers as well as engineering works in the country (COREN/ERM) recently commenced inspection of ongoing projects across the state being executed by government at all levels.
