Ilorin: The Bishop of the Diocese of Kwara, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Sunday Adewole, has urged Christians to embrace forgiveness as a way of life in order to promote peaceful coexistence.
Adewole gave the advice on Friday in Ilorin during a Good Friday service at the Cathedral of Saint Barnabas, Sabo-Oke.
He said that forgiveness remained central to the teachings of Jesus Christ, especially as reflected in the seven words He spoke on the cross.
The Bishop, while speaking on the theme, “ The way of the cross”, urged Christians to cultivate the habit of forgiving one another.
“ Forgive yourself and forgive others because we cannot live together without offending one another. Husband, forgive your wife, and wife, forgive your husband,” he said.
Adewole noted that many broken relationships in society could be restored if individuals learned to let go of grudges and embrace reconciliation.
He also advised parents to be mindful of their words to their children, stressing that spoken words played a significant role in shaping their future.
“ Let your confession be positive, especially over your children. Speak life into them and guide them on the right path,” he said.
The cleric further urged youths to take responsibility for the care and well-being of their parents, describing it as both a moral obligation and a command rooted in faith.
He encouraged Christians not to lose hope in difficult situations, noting that delays should not be seen as denial from God.
“ Delay is not denial. Stay faithful and do not lose hope. God’s plans will always come to pass at the right time,” he said.
Adewole also warned against a life of sin, urging Christians to remain disciplined and committed to righteous living.
“ Do not develop a taste for sin. Remain faithful and commit everything into the hands of God,” he cautioned.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the service attracted Anglican faithful from different parts of Ilorin, who gathered to reflect on the significance of Good Friday and its message of sacrifice, love and redemption.
