BENIN CITY – IF there is any divine magnet that attracts and binds man and woman, the rich and the poor, the strong with the weak, the refined with the crude, then that magnet is love. The moment it strikes, those entangled experience emotional and psychological feelings which they expressed passionately to each other in secret and public places.

However, love has a universal language which include peace, gratitude, smile, giving, appreciation, meekness, endurance, tolerance, understanding, celebration, empathy and togetherness.

When these attributes are rarely or not present between man and woman who profess to be in love, wickedness, aggression, torment, sorrow, violence and all elements of incompatibility dominate such relationship, these often lead to heartbreaking separation or death.

Between Thursday, July 5 and Saturday 14, 2018 three men amongst whom is a 46-year-old who is in Nigerian for his father’s burial, reportedly murdered their girlfriends over issues ranging from allegation of infidelity to theft.

According to police records, the foreign-based man, Osarenwminda Iduwmonyi, 46 opened the floodgate of sorrow by stabbing his girlfriend one Gladys Okoh, 38 severally on her private part, stomach, back-side and ribs with a knife having discovered condoms in her handbag on Thursday, July 5, 3018.

Alexander Ogbeije, 30, had on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 allegedly killed his lover one Mercy Okoh, 27, with a cutlass in a farm and hide her corpse at the base of a plantain tree at Uronigbe town in Oriomwion local government area of Edo State.

The triple tragedies have left sorrows, tears and pains in the hearts of the victims’ families, neighbours, friends, dependants, children and even the perpetrators themselves who may now be awaiting trial and gnashing their teeth in prison custody.

Disturbed by the sad development, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State CP Johnson Kokumo advised women especially girls to be wary of persons they befriend.

He stated that of more concern are friendships that have Facebook and other internet backgrounds.

CP Kokumo stated this last Sunday, July 29, 2018 when he paraded the three murder suspects along with 60 others arrested for offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, transborder crimes to breaking and entry in the state.

The suspects narrated how, when, why, where and what they used to send their lovers to grave.
