The Presidency has given approval for Senator Olorunnibe Mamora to head the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, the appointment is with immediate effect.
According to a release statement from the Presidency, Senator Mamora will succeed the former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIWA, Mr. Boss Gida Mustapha, who was re-designated as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
Mamora who is believed to have wealth of experience, going by his antecedents, has been tasked facilitate infrastructural growth aimed at attracting private sector investors and deepening water transportation patronage as a critical mode of transportation in the multi-modal transport system.
The appointment is said to be strategic due to the running battle between NIWA and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) over the control of the Lagos waterways and coastlines.
Mamora will take over from the Acting Managing Director, Barr. Danladi Ibrahim, who has been holding brief after the former MD, Mr. Boss Gida Mustapha was promoted to the position of SGF to the Government of the Federation.
NIWA is a parastatal under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, where Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi is in charge as the Honourable Minister of Transportation.
Sequel to the new appointed Managing Director of NIWA’s historical birth, Mamora was born on 16 February 1953. Obtained B.Sc, in Health Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) University of Ife, Ile-Ife and later became a Health Practitioner.
While advancing further, he became a Medical Director of a reputable Medical Centre (1987–1998), as well as a Company Medical Adviser (1988 – 1992).
Mamora was a National Delegate for the National Republican Convention (NRC) 1990, and Secretary, Lagos East of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) in 1998.
He was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly in 1999 and thereafter appointed Speaker. He was Chairman of the Conference of Speakers between 2000 and 2001.
Senator Mamora was lected to the Senate in April 2003 also reelected in 2007.
A member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament between 2003 and 2006.
In 2003 due to his track records, he was appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.
After resuming his Seat in the Senate in 2007 he was appointed to several Committees on Upstream Petroleum Resources, Selection Committee, Health, Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs.
