BENIN CITY – A Malaysia-based businessman has been murdered after he allegedly suspended his wedding on discovering that his would-be wife carries three months old questionable pregnancy in Benin City.

The victim, Olisemeka Egom, 34, was shot dead in his family residence at Akugbe Street, Off Okunseri Street, Off Dumez road, Sapele road in the state capital.

It was gathered that Olisemeka was killed in the presence of his father as his would-be wife and three-year old boy were inside their room.

Two armed men had scaled the perimeter wall fence, forced their way into the three-bedroom apartment and opened fire on him about 8:45pm, October 11, 2018.

He is said to have travelled to Malaysia last year after his Bachelor degree in Business Management at Delta State University, Abraka Compus about six years ago.

He was said to have returned home to wed the girl who had a baby boy for him and has been leaving with his parents since he traveled out of the Country.

Narrating his ordeal, the deceased father Mr Emmanuel Egom, 68 from Oshimili North in Delta State said his son Olisemeka received a phone call during which he told the caller that he was at home.

About 20 minutes after, two armed men forced their way into the sitting room where he was watching television with his late son.

“When they entered, he asked what do you want? Is it money? I can give you money? Is it car? The cars are outside.

“They said they don’t want money and that is my son they want. He asked them what did he do? Then he started struggling with them.

“In the process he torn the shirt worn by one of the assailants and ran towards my room.

“They followed him, dragged him back to the sitting room and shut him three times.

“Thereafter, they asked me, Papa do you want to die also? I said no, then they left. I heard them destroying the two cars parked outside and the glass windows.

“How his girlfriend managed to escape with their son to outside the fence and started shouting thief! thief!! thief oh!!!!, during the operation I still don’t know. He stated.

Mr Emmanuel Egom and his wife however accused their son’s would-be wife of complexity in the brutal murder of their son.

“My son and the girlfriend Judith have not been quarreling before, but when my son arrived last August he accused the girl of carrying another man’s pregnancy.

“The girl agreed and said my son was responsible. My son said it is impossible because he has not been around, the last time he visited Nigeria was July 2017.

“He said he would not go ahead with the wedding. So this was the issue on ground. My son opened well-stocked baby things shop for her. He said it was because of his son.

“Though we went to see her parents two years ago before my son travelled out, she is unhappy that my son did not pay her dowry and he went to build a house and bought a car.

“The own plan to kill my son is from the girl, Judith. She has been seeing another boy in this area and we suspect that boy to be responsible for the pregnancy”. The Egoms alleged.

The girl, identified as Mrs Judith Egom and her son was not in the house when our reporter visited.

Windscreens of Toyota Lexus Jeep and Benz 190 parked inside the compound were smashed just as the vehicles had their tyres punctured by the assailants.

Contacted on the telephone, Judith stated that “I do not know what to say, we can not talk on phone, I will call you so that we meet, but you know you cannot publish the story without my consent.

She had yet to call back at the time of filling this report yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Police source revealed that a case of murder was reported and it was treated along other similar incidents recorded in the area as cult related killings.

The police source urged the Egom family to formally report their case for investigation.

The Public Relations Officer for Edo Police Command DSP Chidi Nwabuzor said he had not been briefed on the case.
