Benin City:- The general election which was held yesterday was merred by violence and ballot box snatching in some wards in Egor Local Government Area of Edo state.
A case in study is the one that happened at ward 7 where PDP party agent before the election drew the attention of the authorities about a plot by some APC members to disrupt the election and snatch the ballot box, an attempt that will lead to their opponents loosing votes that will give him victory.
It was gathered that Mr. Festus Oghogho a PDP Agent, a day to the election, called on concerned authorities to be vigilant as he gathered from a reliable source that there were plans to cause fracas and destabilize the electoral process in that ward.
According to a voter, some boys numbering about six stormed the polling unit and tried to snatch the ballot box and the Police (SARS) men tried to resist them and a great squabble broke out and in the process some of the boys escaped with gunshot injuries. As at press time, it could not be ascertained the party the hudlums belong to.
The matter is being investigated by the Police to ascertain those involved in the disruption.
