BENIN CITY – A total of 17 out of 8,276 graduates of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma-Edo State, were on Friday awarded with First Class Degree honours at the institution’s 22nd convocation ceremony.
The combined convocation was organized for graduates of the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions.
The pro-chancellor and chairman governing council of the university, Chief Lawson Omokhodion was also formally installed by the visitor to the university, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, who was representated by his Commissioner for Education, Barr. Jimoh Ijegbai.
The chancellor of the institution, the Etsu Nupe and chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar in his speech admonished the graduands to be courageous as they go into a world filled with twist and turns, bumpy hills, cross roads and dead ends.
He charged them to always dare to take action and not be afraid of making mistakes, pointing out that mistakes sometimes give the maker deeper appreciation of triumph, while teaching him the way not to go.
The chancellor urged them to enjoy the hills and valleys that life challenges pose, urging them further to always be strong willed, while ignoring the voice of mediocrity that discourages people from realising their dreams.
The pro-chancellor and chairman governing council, Chief Lawson Omokhodion on his part expressed appreciation to the governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for giving him opportunity to serve in the capacity of pro-chancellor.
He pledged on behalf of other council members to continue to pursue the laudable goals, ideals and objectives for which the institution was established.
“I feel elated to report that due to hard work, couple with the cooperation of the university management, staff and students of this university, our commitment and policies are already yielding success in various areas”, he said.
The vice chancellor, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo said his administration had completed 76 projects, out of which 35 were funded by Tetfund, 29 by Presidential NEEDS Assessment Intervention Fund, while the others were done with Internally Generated Revenue.
He said his administration has shifted the university from analogue to digital mode operation, as it had deepened the use of ICT to achieve speed, efficiency, effectiveness and cost saving.
