Egor Local Government Council has overtaken Owan West local Government in the ongoing Edo Sports Festival as the Eghe Ogbemudia led council has so far hauled a total of 32 medal to displace Ilaboya’s side who now occupied 4th position with 14 medals.

In the official release made available to ObserverSports, on Wednesday evening, Egor now lead with 12 Gold,8 Silver and 12 Bronze medals to have a total of 32 medals.

Ikpoba-Okha LG now occupy second position with 10 Gold,5 Silver and 2 Bronze to have a total of 17 medals,while Akoko-Edo are now following them in 3rd position with 7 Gold, 9 Silver and 6 to have a total of 22 medals.

Owan West were the first to win gold in the Edo games and were number one on the medal table as at Tuesday evening, but the table has turned. Who knows who climbs top before tomorrow.

Meanwhile, there were fierce battle and entertainment inside the indoor Hall at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium when Boxers,young and old slugged it out for points.

There were some surprises as 21 year old Tabita Mao-Mathias upstaged senior boxer Josephine Umoru (Esan NorthEast)in Super Heavyweight bout to claim gold for Igueben Local government council.

In the male 64Kg,Ajoban of Uhunmwode LG knocked out Peace will Ekong of Oredo just as 12 year old Azeezat Badamasi also dealt with Nefisat to win gold for Oredo in 48 KG.

Speaking after a bout, Tabita Mathias said she was happy to compete and win against an experienced fighter. “I feel excited after winning the fight. My opponents is one of the most experienced boxer in Edo I was looking up to when I joined the sport in 2018. I think this is just the beginning of more gold to come. I will be happy to represent Edo at the National Sports Festival and want to win gold for my state. I featured at the 2018 National Sports Festival in Abuja but lost my fight. But I am working hard to represent Edo. I thank God and my coaches for this achievement.” She said.

The young boxer wondered why they were not given the mother equipment recently procured by government for the national sports festival.

She said it would have been better for them to have the first taste of the new boxing equipment; Ring and others before other boxers from outside.
