Benin, April 22, 2020 (NAN) Uselu Mobile Court in Benin on Wednesday sentenced six persons for violating the curfew imposed by the Edo state government in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Edo Government had on Sunday imposed a statewide dusk-to-dawn curfew, which commenced on Monday and was to last from 7 pm to 6 am daily.
This was part of the state government’s strategy to curtail the spread of the Corona virus in the state.
The state Prosecuting counsel , Mrs Ama Iyamu said that the six persons where apprehended at New Benin axis and they pleaded liable to the offence
Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Rusberth Imafidon, directed the convicts to carry out community services n line with the state government Non custodian regulation.
The punishment include Clearing drains, shrubs, picking of trash, compulsory community sensitisation, grass cutting among others
The sentences ranged from five to ten day non custodial community service.
The Correctional officers handle the offenders during the punishment period.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Uselu Mobile Court had earlier on Tuesday sentenced 32 persons for violation of the curfew.
The apprehended 32 persons were brought from New Benin, Okoro and Ugbowo.
