Social media influencers plying their trade in Edo State have raised the alarm over repeated threats by agents said to be linked to the sacked National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Benin billionaire, Captain Hosa Okunbo.

A cross section of the influencers said they have received continuous threat calls warning that they would be inflicted with bodily harm if they do not cease their support for Governor Godwin Obaseki in the forthcoming governorship election.

Some of them noted that they have been asked to work for only the APC governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for as much as N3 million.

One of the social media influencers who pleaded anonymity said she has been hounded on social media and through phone calls over her work and support for the governor.

According to her, “A number of my colleagues and I, have received threat calls from agents of Comrade Oshiomhole and Captain Okunbo. Their threats are straight and direct: work for us or we will harm you.

“We are resolute in our support for the governor and no amount of intimidation and threat of violence will deter us. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to contribute to the political process and ensure that the government truly belongs to the people. We will not allow the fear-mongering being perpetuated by Oshiomhole and his people to get under our skin.”

Another influencer, who has sworn unwavering support for the governor and his programmes, noted that it was regrettable that the opposition is trading in fear to convince people to support them, stating that it was a new low in the state’s political journey.

“We stand solidly behind the governor and would resist any attempt to use violence to muzzle the people. My colleagues and I would work to deliver the governor for a second term and no amount of intimidation would flutter our resolve,” he added.
