BENIN CITY – The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) (aka Pyrates Confraternity), Benin branch 2 has held it’s 2020 annual Feast of Barracuda and attributed the continued spikes in COVID-19 in the country to include indecisive leadership at all levels.
The association also identified by the association were poor and inadequate health facilities, lack of communication and transparency, ignorance and reluctance of citizens to accept the existence of the pandemic.
In a virtual please lecture held as part of the annual Feast, themed: “The COVID-19 Pandemic: Truth, Lessons and the Way Forward – An Analysis,” The Chief Medical Director of Central Hospital, Warri, Delta State, Dr (Mrs) Bosede Olowojoba gave an insight into the origin and spread of the virus.
She identified the health challenges in combating COVID-19 to include refusal of the populace to comply with established protocols on the prevention of COVID-19.
According to her, the government and the governed must close ranks if substantial level is to be attained in the fight against the spread of the virus.
A guest Speaker, Dr Chris Ekiyor and Dr Olowojoba at the discussion segment of the event corroborated the Keynote speaker, Dr Paul Okubor that the nation’s health sector has suffered a big blow, recording very high exodus of health professionals out of the country for greener pastures.
The Feast of Barracuda Lecture Series is an annual event, especially designed to identify and discuss some of the contemporary socio-political or economic issues militating against the attainment of a just and egalitarian society, with a view to proffering practicable and realistic
Present at the Virtual Lecture were the President of the Benin II Branch, Mr. Chukwuemeka Bright Igwe, the Chairman/ moderator of this Year’s Event, Mr Osaro Anthony Osagiede and over fifty(50) participants from various parts of the World. Pre and Post Event activities included enlightenment on COVID-19, using radio and television Jingles in English Language and Pidgin English.
