BENIN CITY – As part of the preparation for the forthcoming September 19, 2020 Governorship election in Edo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has organised a 3-day training workshop for staff and ad-hoc committee in order to ensure smooth running of the electoral processes.

Speaking during official commencement of the training Mr. Agoha Ifeanyi Chukwu, the Ag Director, Training INCE, emphasized the importance of the election as it would be the first gubernatorial elections to be held during the pandemic and that it would set the basis for the Ondo Election and others in the country.

He stressed that the commission has put some logistics in place in order to ensure the integrity of the process while putting into consideration the safety of voters and staff explaining that the voting protocols have gone beyond the normal procedure being the first time inner and outer queue be introduced in order to ensure that guideline for social distancing are achieved.

He added that the commission working closely with officials of the NCDC to encourage voters to come out enmasse to exercise their franchise, just as he advised them to wear their face masks and ad-hoc strictly to the safety measures.

In the same vein, Mr. Saidu Ahmed form the operations Dept, INEC, admonished that officials should be up and during and shun any act of corruption before, during and after the election.

The training which was climaxed with practical classes as trainees were tutored on the use of the Smart Card Readers (SCR.) were part of the series of training workshop so far put in place by INEC towards the successful conduct of September Gubernatorial election.

However, the trainees who expressed their delight and readiness for the election thanked INEC for the opportunity given them to contribute their quota to their father’s land in view of the national assignment they have been engaged to carry out during the election.

They assured the electoral body that they would not betray the confident reposed in them by appointing them to serve as ad-hoc staff during the all important Edo Gubernatorial election come Saturday September 19, 2020.
