BENIN CITY- The Edo State Chapter of Practicing Butchers Association (PBA), has endoresed the candidacy and re-election bid of Governor Godwin Obaseki comes 19 this month.

Executive and members of the Association who abandoned their businesses in solidarity for the re-election bid of the incumbent governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on Wednesday in Benin City, the Edo State Capital said that they believes that Obaseki has all it takes to take the state to the next level and bring development and hope to the people of the state.

The group, branded with the People Democratic Party faze caps and a life cow to demonstrate their trade, took to the major streets in Benin in solidarity with the governor with their usual slogan of 4+4 and re-echoing of ‘Togba’.

Addressing journalists at the State NUJ Secretariat in Benin City, the Edo State Chairman of the Association, Comrade Akhare Paul Odigie, said they have chosen to defer the rain to come out in their large numbers to rally round Governor Godwin Obaseki who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) based on his unprecedented developmental strides in Edo state.

He posited that the governor has done well and should be given the opportunity to continue and complete the good work he has started in the state.

“The Edo state butchers, in totality, have agreed that Obaseki, is our next governor. He shall continue to occupy Osadebe Avenue till 2024 because of his developmental strides, the programmes he has lined up in the association of Edo state butchers, moving the meat market to an industry.

“He promised us, he has designed it and we know in his second term, he will fulfill it.

“Since the inception of governor Godwin Obaseki, the Edo state butchers have known peace. There is no thuggery and there is no extortion because of his support and believe that the market people are the ones that move the economy.

“Today, we shutdown the entire meat facilities in Edo state, we shutdown the entire meat sellers in the different markets to endorse and to say we are 100 percent with Obaseki”, he said.

Responding, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Sir (Comrade) Roland Osakue, commended the people for their decision to support the governor’s re-election bid, and advised them be law abiding while carrying out their solidarity rally across the City.

He advised the butchers further not to allow miscreants to infiltrate into their peaceful rally as no meaningful development occur in a rancorous environment.
