Over 3,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, on Friday, decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring their unflinching support for the reelection of Governor Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the PDP in the September 19, 2020 election.

Leading the defectors in Uwelu wards 4, 5 and 6, Egor Local Government Area, Mr. Joseph Erumwunse, a former APC leader in the LGA, hailed Obaseki’s performance across all sectors of the state, promising to rally voters to ensure the governor’s victory at the poll.

Erumwunse noted: “Sir, I am glad to announce to you that we are over 3,000 former APC members defecting to PDP today.

“You have done well and we are backing your reelection. We are going to vote massively for you on September 19, 2020.

“On that election day, we are going to finally put the devil to shame. You are well loved by Edo people and we are going to make sure we vote for you massively.”

The Chairman of Edo State PDP Campaign Council, Chief Dan Orbih, said: “We need to join hands and put an end to godfatherism in our politics, where one man decides who becomes governor.”

In his remarks, the PDP candidate, Obaseki, assured the traders of an enabling business environment in the area.

He said: “You know coming from the private sector, I know how to put small scale businesses together and make a huge profit.

“Some people don’t know what it takes; they see all the money with you and they want to forcefully take it from you. If you allow them into power, they are going to take us backward.”

“We are fighting today because a few people believe in spending taxpayers’ money anyhow. We won’t allow godfathers in Edo politics anymore,” he said.
