BENIN CITY- Benin City, the Edo State Capital recorded the first rain fall for the year 2021 yesterday, just as the Oba of Benin Kingdom, Oba Ewuare II fete Journalists in the state to an end of year party.

The rain, which fell for about twenty minutes, started at about 4 pm with some parts of Benin covered by flood.

As part of the annual get together of Journalists in the state, the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II provided a cow and some huge sum of money to the Nigerian Union of Journalists to host an end of year party for its members.

The party which was held at the NUJ press center in Benin City was attended by Journalists, head of media organizations and families of Journalists.

The Chairman of the Edo State Council of the NUJ Sir Roland Osakue in his opening remarks thanked His
Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II for his kind disposition towards Journalists in the state,
According to him, the end of year party for Journalists by His Royal Majesty is usually held at the Palace but due to the COVID-19 protocols of observing safe distance, it was moved to the NUJ Press Centre.

The NUJ chairman also advised the Journalists to ensure that they clarify any issue that has to do with the palace with the Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council before publication noting that the palace is accessible to journalists at all times.
