BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has intensified the vaccination of eligible persons in the state with the second dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, as part of efforts to contain the pandemic and ensure the safety of citizens.
The state’s COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the second dose vaccination exercise is currently ongoing at several fixed and temporary posts across all wards and local councils in the state to ensure that every eligible person is vaccinated.
Obi said the second dose vaccination exercise, which commenced on June 01, 2020 will last for 40 days, urging those who took the first dose to make themselves available for the booster dose meant to provide full protection against the virus.
The Incident Manager, while decrying the poor level of compliance with guidelines, urged residents to support the government’s efforts at curbing the spread of the virus to ensure a total victory over the pandemic.
He, however, reassured that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration remains committed to containing the pandemic and will continue to deploy resources to check the spread of the pandemic and protect residents across all communities in the state.
“While the second dose vaccination continues across all communities to inoculate eligible persons with the booster dose, we have noticed a high disregard to guidelines to contain the pandemic, especially the compulsory use of facemasks in public places.
“We urge everyone to support the government’s efforts at containing the pandemic by complying with preventive protocols to curtail the spread of the virus. We must continue to wear our facemasks when in public; wash your hands regularly under running water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers and observe social distancing.”
