The Edo State Government has restated his administration’s commitment to the development of sports, reassuring that the government will sustain investment in the sector to restore the lost glory of Edo State and place it as a sports hub for Africa.

The Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu said this while addressing stakeholders at a one-day workshop on sports development in Edo, at the Government House, Benin City.

He said the government is committed to changing the sports narrative in the state.

According to him, “The advent of the present administration under the visionary leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, has changed the sports narrative in Edo with strategic policies to improve sporting activities.

“Development of the sports sector is one of the major thematic pillars of this administration. As we speak, we have committed huge financial resources in repositioning and strengthening the sports sector.

“We are committed to restoring her lost glory in sporting excellence. Our determination to make Edo great again, as far as sports is concerned, is a mission that we are resolved to actualize.”

Shaibu said that the sports sector, with the right policies by government and support from the private sector, is capable of generating employment for the state’s teeming youths as well as creating sustainable livelihoods for citizens.
