BENIN CITY – The Director General of Edo State Health Insurance Commission, Dr. Rock Amegor has urged members of the society, particularly the informal sector to take advantage of the Edo State Government Health Insurance Scheme to access quality and affordable healthcare services.
Speaking with journalists in Benin City, he said that the Scheme is for all Edo State residents regardless of background, educational or financial status.
He disclosed that the commission has enrolled over 32,820 principals and dependants in the formal sector, which comprised of civil servants and the organized private sector into the Scheme.
According to him, “the scheme is not only for civil servants in the Society, it is an all inclusive one that focuses on every sector of the society, including market women, farmers, pensioners, artisans, students and others.”
He disclosed that 65 percent of the society comprises informal sector and it is important to get them on the scheme so as to achieve the Universal Health Coverage Goal in Edo State.
Speaking on how to get the bulk of the informal sector into the Scheme, the Director, Public Relation & Advocacy Department, Mrs Jennifer Odighibor said that the Commission has for a long time now embarked on the sensitization of the informal sector, starting from market women executive in the different Local Government Areas, churches and mosques as well as the various groups in the Society.
“We are currently planning our guerrilla marketing strategy where information will be brought to the door steps of the people.
“We also have our jingles running on air and our bill boards mounted in conspicuous places,” she said.
According to Dr. Osayuki Edosa-Iyayi, the Director of Health Services, Standard and Claims Department, enrollees have started receiving healthcare and there are positive responses from them and our healthcare providers as well.
“Just last week, we had an interactive sessions with our healthcare providers, where we discussed on our enrollee experiences at their facilities and also deliberated on improving positive client experience.”
She therefore urged the informal sector to get enrolled in the state so as to enjoy it’s numerous health benefits.
